Simple Budget is a personal budgeting app. It is designed so that your financial information stays with you.
The short version
You don’t create an account with us, and we don’t run any servers.
We never see, collect, sell or share your data.
There are no ads, analytics or tracking of any kind.
Where your data is stored
Your accounts, transactions, budgets, goals, receipts and settings are stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on for your Apple Account, they sync between your devices through your own private iCloud database, which is protected by Apple and is not accessible to us. You can export a backup or erase all of your data at any time in Settings.
Optional services you connect
Simple Budget works fully without any of the following. If you choose to use them:
SimpleFIN Bridge — If you connect your own SimpleFIN Bridge account, Simple Budget downloads read-only balance and transaction data directly from SimpleFIN to your device. Your connection is stored in iCloud Keychain, which Apple end-to-end encrypts and syncs only to your own devices, so connecting on one device connects your others. SimpleFIN is a separate service with its own privacy policy.
Twelve Data — If you add your own Twelve Data API key, Simple Budget sends the stock and fund symbols of your holdings to Twelve Data to fetch prices. No other information is sent. Your key is stored in iCloud Keychain, which Apple end-to-end encrypts and syncs only to your own devices.
Ask Simple Budget and Siri
Questions you ask Simple Budget, in the app or through Siri and Shortcuts, are answered on your device. The in-app assistant uses Apple Intelligence’s on-device model, and your financial data is not sent to us or to any server to answer them.
Widgets
Simple Budget’s widgets show a short summary (what’s left to spend, upcoming bills, net worth and goal progress) that the app saves on your device for them. This summary never leaves your device, and on iPhone and iPad the amounts are hidden on the Lock Screen while your device is locked.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We don’t receive your payment information.
Notifications and camera
Budget alerts are local notifications created on your device. The camera is only used when you choose to scan a receipt, and scans are stored with your data as described above.
Children
Simple Budget is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be available in the app and on this page.
